 The grand opening ceremony was witnessed by David Levin, CEO of UBM, Madame Hong Qiu, Assistant Minister of China’s Ministry of Commerce, as well as representatives from the Japan Pharmaceutical Traders’ Association. Other representatives included government agencies from China as well as from abroad, and not to be forgotten, the crowd of visitors waiting to be registered and admitted into the show halls.
The global pharmaceutical market was valued at US$745 billion in 2008. China’s import and export of pharmaceutical products was valued at US$ 40 billion, and the export of APIs is valued at US$ 20 billion, according to Madame Hong Qiu.
2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the CPhI family of events, according to David Levin. CPhI China 2009 has attracted all of the major API producers and traders from China; this year it boasts roughly 1,600 exhibitors and 27,000 visitors, with more than 7,000 overseas buyers.
